Q. We have a limited budget, how can we hire you to speak?
A. We have many creative options for those who have a limited budget. I've put them on THIS PAGE for your convenience. Don't worry, if you're willing to get creative…we can make it work.
Q. Do you charge travel expenses?
Isn't it expensive to bring you in NB, Canada?
A. Nope. We just include that in the speaking fee. It's easier for everyone that way. You don't have to worry about getting stuck with a bill for a $1000 flight, and I can go for a nice dinner if I want to without feeling guilty. Best of all, neither of us have to deal with the headache of receipts.
And for my US clients, brining me in from my base in Canada isn't any more expensive than bringing in a speaker from Boston or NYC.
Q. What type of events do you normally speak at?
A. I speak at a range of different events:
middle school assemblies, high school assemblies, college events,
student leadership conferences, health conferences, teacher professional development days, and educator conferences. I also do corporate events. In fact, a great way to get my presentation paid for at your school is to partner with a local corporation. I can speak to your school in the morning and the company in the afternoon and the company can cover the tab:)
Q. Are all you stories true?
A. Of course. Telling stories that aren't true would be dishonest and pointless. Everyone's life is full of interesting stories, mine just happens to include getting 3 new organs.
Q. How did you get started speaking?
A.
Completely by accident. I was invited to be the keynote speaker at a
local high school's graduation. I had a 10 minute slot. I was happy to
help out though I had no idea what I'd say. After working on the speech
for weeks, I had my "big moment". The speech went well and many had kind
comments, but one would change my life. The father of one of the
graduates approached me afterward and asked for my business card. When I
said I didn't have one, he didn't understand. He thought I was a
professional speaker and told me his company hired people to do what I
had just done all the time. LIGHTBULB moment! From that day I began to
build my speaking career.
Q. Any advice for someone wanting to become a speaker?
A. Speak. That's it. Speak a LOT. Wherever anyone will listen. That, and do it for that right reasons. You have to have an honest desire to help other people. Start with places where they let people speak for free (service clubs, elementary schools etc. Then, when you're ready, start charing a little.

Q. What is the BEST part about being a speaker?
A. The oppportunity to make a positive difference in someone's life. When someone comes up to me after a speech and shared how much it has touched them, made them think differently etc. THAT is what it's all about.
Q. What is the WORST part?
A. Being away from my family. I love spending time with my wife and kids and being on the road means I can go days and sometimes weeks without seeing them. The good thing is, that I get summers off and my wife is a teacher so we get to spend every summer together.

Q. How did you overcome the obstacles you faced?
A. Time, encouraging mentors, counseling, prayer, a shift in perspective, realizing that I could turn my problems into opportunities and use them to help other who have their own obstacles. We were all created for a purpose and I finally realized mine.
